Our Leadership

Ben Hummel

A graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) Ben holds the following real estate certifications CCIM, CPM and RPA.  He brings over 25 years of commercial real estate development experience across several project types with an emphasis in retail shopping center development.

Prior to founding Hummel Investments, Ben was a co-owner of Mays & Company Real Estate Development, a partner at Hunt Properties and a Development Partner at both JE Robert Companies and JPI Multifamily.  His primary responsibilities included sourcing new business opportunities, maintaining anchor tenant relationships and directing internal project staff including leasing, development, legal, construction and project finance.


Ben has successfully completed various type developments from large scale projects – Denton Crossing (550,000 SF Power Center located in Denton TX), medium scale projects – The Villages at Aspen Park (anchored with a King Soopers Grocery Store), to smaller fee development services projects – Bridgestone Retail Operations, LLC and First Choice ER.

Steve Meier

A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin’s School of Architecture, Steve practiced architecture for 20 years, 17 of which were with the firm he founded, before shifting his career to real estate development.  During his career practicing architecture, he provided architectural and development services for national retailers such as Blockbuster Video, Family Dollar, TJ Maxx, Michael’s Stores, Tractor Supply Company and Whataburger Restaurants to name a few.  This experience was a perfect segue into retail development in 2003.


Since then, Steve has developed more than 150 free-standing single tenant retail projects.  Steve’s extensive experience in all facets of design, entitlement, permitting and construction gave him an invaluable understanding of the “nuts and bolts” of a development project, from the site selection process through construction. He draws upon this experience and know-how to deliver projects to the client on time and with few problems.


Julie Emmett

Julie graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio Texas with a degree in Communications and English.  She spent 13 years with Hilton Worldwide and in 2006 made the switch from managing Hilton’s Internet Customer Care team to coordinating real estate development.  She supports the Hummel team and the client from the entitlement process through to the certificate of occupancy and wrap up of close out documents. 

Forrest Wells

A graduate of New Mexico State University, Forrest spent the first half of his career contracting and supervising residential and agricultural construction projects. In the mid-90's, he transitioned to restaurant construction management. In 2002, he started managing the construction of light commercial projects for real estate developers.  Since then, Forrest has completed more than 90 projects in this capacity. He has managed the construction of numerous utility company facilities, restaurants, automotive stores, big box retail stores and small medical facilities. His management scope includes: plan review; bidding, qualifying & negotiating construction contracts; selecting GC's; regular site visits and conferences to insure the project stays on schedule, within budget and in conformance to the plans and specs; GC Pay Application processing; project closeout and warranty enforcement.
